Miles for Miracles

March 17, 2010

First there was the purple toilet. Now there is the purple treadmill. It must be that time of the year. Yes, Nine Mile Falls is gearing up for Relay For Life benefiting the American Cancer Society, and Suncrest Fitness Center is doing its part  walking, jogging, or running towards a cure; all with your help, of course. From March 1st, through May 31st, Suncrest  Fitness Center has designated one treadmill to its “Miles for Miracles” program, a fundraising effort for the June event.

Any gym member can walk or jog on the purpleclad machine, and anyone can pledge funds for the miles logged on the machine. You don't have to pledge in order to use the machine; and you don't have to be a gym member in order to pledge. Checks are collected at the front desks of the both the fitness center and Phase 1 Physical Therapy. On June 18th the fitness center will present all the checks collected to Lake Spokane Relay for Life.

The business hopes to raise $10,000 during its 3-month effort and currently has a friendly fierce internal competition going on between the fitness center and Physical 1 Therapy, to see who can bring in more pledges for the good cause. (So far the Fitness Center is in the lead!) So go help out your favorite team! In this race for the cure, everybody is a winner; as Fitness Center manager Karman Shaw says; “The miles you walk and pledges you make today will help save a life tomorrow.”

The fundraising event is the brain child of Joel San Nicolas. San Nicolas, sponsorship chair for Relay, is also looking for corporate sponsorship for the relay. “The more money we can raise, the better it is for our community.” San Nicolas says. If you are interested in being a corporate sponsor, please contact San Nicolas at 465-5663.
