Lakeside Eagles Defeat the Freeman Scotties

November 3, 2010

Sparks flew as the Lakeside Eagles played against the Freeman Scotties in the mud and the cold last Friday at Freeman. This game would decide which team would go on to play in the regional cross-over game against Omak this week. Supporters rallied on both sides to cheer their respective team to victory.

First half recap: The Scotties were the first to hold possession over the ball. But the Eagle defense kept them at bay and forced them to punt within the first two minutes of game play. Lakeside takes possession and slowly gains ground on the Freeman Scotties. Senior running back, Bryan Jennings makes three strong runs down the field and brings the Eagles within easy scoring distance for the first Lakeside touchdown, which was scored by junior running back Jimmy Day on a faked pass turned lateral pitch. The two point conversion attempt fails. Lakeside 6, Freeman 0. The Scotties take back possession at their own thirty-five yard line after the kickoff. A mere two minutes after Lakeside's lead-taking touchdown, the Scotties blast through the Eagle defense to score their own. Their two point conversion connects. Lakeside 6, Freeman 8.

For most of the second quarter, the two teams for battle for yards up and down the field. The game seemed to have become a stalemate, until the last three minutes brought another touchdown for the Lakeside Eagles. Scored by Jimmy Day from their own thirty yard line, a massive eighty yard run for Day. Lakeside 12, Freeman 8. Freeman takes back the ball and tries to return to their leading position, but the Eagle defense proves too strong for the Scotties running and passing game. With thirty seconds left in the first half, the Scotties fumble the ball in Eagle territory, Lakeside recovers and runs down the final seconds of the first half leading into halftime.

Second half recap: The Scotties fight hard to make up ground against the Eagles, but Lakeside was comfortable with their shallow, yet decisive lead. The entire third quarter was a battle for control and yards. Both the Eagle and Scottie defenses held together, and for the entire quarter, no points were scored.

With the fourth quarter, the clock was quickly winding down for the Scotties to get into scoring position and take back the lead. In the final two minutes of the game, Freeman gains possession at their thirty-two yard line. In a final attempt to gain back the lead, the Scotties throw a long pass down field, but it was met by an Eagle interception just before the end zone. From there it was a simple task for Lakeside to run down the clock and put the Scotties down on their home field. Final score: Lakeside 12, Freeman 8.

This week the Lakeside Eagles look to their cross-over game against Omak for the regional playoffs.
