Northland Rosarium

April 27, 2011

Carol Newcomb is a master gardener and has been the owner of Northland Rosarium for the past seven years. Northland Rosarium is a rose nursery, supplying their own-root, winter-hardy garden roses. Located at 9405 S. Williams Lane, Spokane, WA 99224. Northland Rosarium guarantees their roses are healthy and ready to plant at the time they leave their care.

Northland Rosarium was originally owned and operated by Larry Parton. Carol Newcomb met him while he was teaching Horticulture at Spokane Community College; she was one of his students. Mrs. Newcomb started working for Mr. Parton at Northland Rosarium fulfilling her life-long love for flowers.

When Larry Parton relocated to the Washington Coastal Region, Carol Newcomb found herself leaving the insurance industry and together with her husband of 41 years, she bought the Rosarium.

All of their plants are container-grown on their own roots rather than using the roots of another variety. The 6-inch tall containers hold about one quart of root mass, which is found to work very well in getting the plant off to a fine start.

Northland Rosarium is convinced by their experience in this Zone 5 climate that most roses live longer and are hardier on their own roots. There is a much llower chance of virus and they are careful to use virus-free cutting stock. Another plus, is the problem of suckers and possible transplant rejection, which doesn't exist with roses on their own roots.

Northland Rosarium regularly hosts special events including:

April 28th, Lake Spokane Garden Club, 7:00 p.m. which will include a Power Point presentation and Roses and Clematis for sale.
