Libraries of Stevens County Youth Summer Programs 2011
Week 1: June 20-24 The Stories We Tell: Trickster Tales – Many cultures have a trickster story. You can find stories about the Coyote and Raven from Native American lore, Reynard the Fox from Europe, and Leprechauns from Ireland. Come reenact world fables with paper crafted puppets.

Week 2: June 27-July 1 How We Live – How do children live in other parts of the world? This week's program will focus on Mexico and include crafts, dancing and other exciting Mexican traditions. Watch for the start of special guest programs this week at some of our libraries.

Week 4: July 12-15 Arts and Dreams – Art is a universal language. Sometimes we respond to it better than the spoken word. This week you can make your own Mancala game and learn Swahili.

Week 5: July 19-22 Global Citizens: Although there are many countries in the world, we all share the planet. Air, water, and other resources are not bound by national borders. Our programs will help children gain some self and global awareness.

Week 6: July 26-29 Grand Finale – Susan Creed Storyteller In spite of their differences, all world cultures share stories. Our summer has been spent introducing children to other cultures by sharing folktales, songs and crafts from around the globe. We will wrap up our summer activities with a special program by local Storyteller, Susan Creed. Make sure to visit one of our four libraries where she will be entertaining us with her multicultural stories.

*DIY – Locations will offer Do-it-Yourself activities for children who visit the library during this time. Activities will focus on the theme of the week
**KUNDA! Marimba Band will perform at four locations. All ages will delight in this performance.
***P.E.A.K Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids program will include games, activities and lessons on the principles of outdoor ethics. Materials provided by REI.
