July 20, 2011

The 4th of July weekend was more than a holiday celebration for many of our local young ladies. The Lakesiders fast pitch 10U, 12U and 14U teams participated in the 4th of July Shootout, their final tournament of the season. Though all three teams competed to the end and all three played well during the weekend, it was the 10U girls who were the last Lakesider team standing. After a great first day, the Lakesiders 10U went into Sunday as the #1 seed and faced off against the Spokane Cougars. The Lakesider bats came alive and after 5 innings the game was called due to time restrictions with the Lakesiders up 11-3. One more win against the Northwest Athletics would place the Lakesiders in their first championship game of the season. That last win would elude our girls as the semi-final game developed into a 7 inning pitcher's duel and ended with the A's up 3-0. After three long days of great softball the 10U Lakesiders earned another third place finish, their second of the season. Though they fell short of their goal of tournament champion, they still played like champs and once again made our community proud. Congratulations ladies!
