Fill the Boot for MDA
On Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Stevens County Fire District 1 will have boots in hand as they kick-off their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighters will be stationed at the Suncrest Fire Station, Loon Lake 4 Corners, and the North Division Y collecting money to benefit MDA. Last year they raised an impressive $6,142 through Fill-the-Boot. Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA Summer Camp, support groups and local clinics.
Fill-the-Boot is a 57-year-old tradition that began as the brainchild of two Boston firefighters. In 1954 Butch Snyder and Jim Gigsby, along with fellow Boston firefighters wanted to help so they grabbed their boots and headed out into the community with the hope that people would fill those boots with donations. Since then firefighters have collected more than $400 million.
