What is Compassion® International?
In 1952, Compassion International was founded by Rev. Everett Swanson and initially started providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education, health care and Christian training. They continue to provide these services today, helping more than 1.2 million children in 26 countries. Compassion International advocates child sponsorship as a way to provide resources to help children break the cycle of poverty.
Of the monthly monies sent from sponsors, 80% goes to the child the sponsor has chosen. This enables the child to receive spiritual, economic, social, and educational guidance. In certain circumstances, the child is able to go to college and break the poverty cycle for themselves and their families. Sponsorship programs also include pregnant women and those monies go to newborn education and disease prevention. Once the child is born, the sponsorship follows the child throughout life.
