Lions Club Parade

December 28, 2011

It was a warm and sunny day, a perfect day for marching in downtown Seattle. Our Lakeside Middle School band and color guard, with a few LHS band members too, had gotten on a charter bus at 3:00 AM on July 5th. We arrived at 8:30 AM and were pumped up and ready to march the International Lions Club Parade.

We were all very excited but a little bit overwhelmed by all the noise and people. Our band director, Mr. Mote, had chosen to march through the parade route twice, because each time a band marched through the route they were paid $1,500. This money has been set aside to buy an equipment trailer for the band, something that we are still looking to purchase.

The first time through the parade we marched with the Texas delegation. After our warm ups, we were given very nice cowboy hats by the leader of the Texas group and were all set to play our “Texas” music. The second time through we marched with the Korean delegation and played our own music, “The Beatles Medley”. We all had a ton of fun!

After putting all of our instruments back on the bus, we headed to North Bend for a great lunch and a chance to relax. We were all tired but very proud of ourselves for earning so much money for the band. We all enjoyed this experience and were glad that we attended the tiring, but fun trip
