Mama Rose Face Juice: A New Use for Beloved Roses
Lifelong Nine Mile Falls resident Rose Gower loves roses. She has over 70 different rose bushes, and three years ago she wanted to find a way to preserve the smell she loves. While doing some research on the Internet one day, she stumbled on a recipe for rose water and its health benefits when used on the skin.
Gower’s first attempt to replicate the Internet recipe didn’t turn out too well, but with a little perseverance and experimentation, she found a successful blend. She added rose hip oil, pomegranate seed oil, and aloe vera gel, and voila, Mama Rose Face Juice was born. She still makes the original recipe, and she now has another line made with lemon juice and peel, wheat germ oil, almond oil, meadowfoam seed oil, and aloe vera gel.
According to Gower, her products work as an astringent and a toner, and can be used as a makeup remover as well. The products are excellent for encouraging healthy skin growth and for helping to heal damaged skin due to acne, scars, sun exposure and other damage. Both products are beneficial to dry, chapped, irritated or normal skin, however the lemongrass is slightly more astringent which is helpful for oily or acne prone skin.
What started out as hobby grew rapidly as friends and family requested her products. Now Gower makes her face juices year around in her kitchen and sells bottles online on her websites, www.mamarosefj.com or www.mama-rose.com, and at local craft fairs. She is also on Facebook. She dreams of opening her own shop and making her products full-time.
Gower also uses her rose petals to make another unique product, rose petal sugar cookies. “The rose petals are edible,” Gower states, “and look so pretty in the cookies.” She adds that before using rose petals for cooking, make sure they aren’t sprayed with pesticides.
If interested in Gower’s products, contact her at one of her websites, either www.mamarosefj.com or www.mama-rose.com, or call her at 509-954-5183. Four ounce bottles of Mama Rose Face Juice retail for $16.50 each.
