Thank You to all the fine citizens of South Stevens County for your support over the last three years. I am officially announcing that I will not be seeking a second term as county commissioner of district one. The current term will end December 31, 2012. My wife Fran and I plan on doing some traveling and spending some winter time in Arizona. I have enjoyed the opportunity that you gave me to serve in this capacity. I have been able to meet many good hard working people in the last three years. As a county we have faced many financial and economic challenges that have necessitated an evaluation of just what is most important. It is my hope that I have served the majority of you well realizing before I took on this challenge that you can never please everyone. THANKS AGAIN!
The 2010 census revealed that the populations of the county commissioner districts were substantially out of balance. District one population was much larger than the other districts, due to the growth in the southern end of the county. County Auditor Tim Gray has proposed a plan to balance the districts. The plan would move the precincts of Valley (2), Clayton (1) and Loon Lake (2) from district (1) to district (2). The plan would change the population balance so that district 1 would be slightly smaller than the other two northern districts to allow for growth since most of the population increase has been in the southern part of the county. The Board of County Commissioners will be holding a public hearing on this plan on February 15 at 6:00pm in Chewelah at the City Hall.
