Blue Library Buzz
If you happen to be in the Lakeside Library around lunch time, you may hear a jingling sound and the pitter patter of little paws coming from the stairway. Then you’ll see a wiggly tail, perky ears and big brown eyes that seem to say “Hi there—I’m ready to have my back scratched now!” This little canine charmer is Indiana Jones Shaw or “Indy” for short. Tonia Shaw of Banana Boat is Indy’s proud “mom.” This little guy always makes our day at the Library brighter.
Pets and people go together. Over half of the households in America own at least one pet. According to the Humane Society of the United States, there are approximately 78.2 million dogs and 86.4 million cats that have homes in the U.S. Thinking about adopting a pet? The Lakeside Library is a great resource for information about dogs, cats, fish, birds, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and just about any pet you could think of.
The Dog Breed Bible by D. Caroline Coile, and The New Encyclopedia of Cats by Bruce Fogle are great books for general information about dogs and cats. If you are interested in agility dog training, we have books to help you get started, such as Agility Training by Ali and Joe Canova. For all-around dog training, we have DVDs and books by Cesar Milan, “The Dog Whisperer,” including Be the Pack Leader, as well as those by other authors. If you enjoy reading true stories about people and their animal friends, you may like Alex and Me by Irene M. Pepperberg, Soul of a Dog by Jon Katz, or Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper. If downloadable audio books and e-books are more convenient, many titles are available through Overdrive on our web site, www.thelosc.org.
So stop by the Lakeside Library and you may be lucky enough to meet Indy. As for the Library Cat, you’ll have to visit him at my house. But that’s another story.
