Parents Say Deer Park Levy Needed To Provide Quality Education

As parents in the Deer Park School District we are in full support of the levy. This levy is crucial to the continued quality operation of the school district. The levy is 30% of the district’s operating budget. Unfortunately, the state (and the federal) government do not fully fund even the required courses for high school graduation. In order to provide our Deer Park students with a well rounded, quality education levy dollars are needed.

It is important for patrons to understand that this levy is not a new Tax and it is not a bond. These levy dollars will not raise taxes nor will this money go toward new facilities within the school district. These levy dollars are FOR KIDS! All levy dollars stay in Deer Park – these taxes are used to directly fund the programs and people that work for kids in Deer Park Schools!

Programs and activities that are in serious jeopardy if the levy fails:

• All athletic programs and extracurricular activities

• Band, Choir and Drama

•12 certificated staff members (teachers, librarians, counselors, 25 para-educators, 6 custodians, 1 administrator, and 8 “other” positions (to include maintenance, nursing, technology, etc.) 25 para-educators, 6 custodians, 1 administrator, and 8 “other” positions (to include maintenance, nursing, technology, etc.)

• High school courses, including electives and college-in-the- classroom

• Technology, textbooks and materials

• Building maintenance and upkeep

As concerned community members and parents, we ask that you VOTE YES for the Deer Park School District Levy. Vote YES for kids!!

Sincerely,

Tammy Woodard, Clayton, WA

Lisa Simpson, Deer Park, WA
