Fire Liason Report
MARK WHITAKER OF LOON LAKE APPOINTED NEW FIRE COMMISSIONER: See Commissioner Bill Madison’s column for details about your new fire commissioner.
MORE CHIPPER DAYS: The chipper day held on April 14th was a big success with over 200 loads processed. With all the wet weather we’ve had, the bushes and grass are growing like crazy. Mow and trim and collect all that yard waste and take it to the next chipper days near Station #4 in Tum Tum off highway 291. There are three more Saturday opportunities this spring: April 28th, May 5th and May 19th.
MEET YOUR LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS AT RELAY FOR LIFE: Volunteer and paid firefighters will be taking an active part in Relay for Life, Friday and Saturday, June 1st and 2nd. Come and meet your local firefighters and paramedics.
CPR TRAINING, FREE TO THE PUBLIC: Help your own family and possibly your neighbors’ family by learning how to do CPR, for free. Thanks to a grant from the Empire Health Foundation, you can get free non-certification CPR training on Wednesday, May 9th at the Fire District Headquarters in Clayton, next to Fire Station #1 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You will not be officially certified with this training, but with what you learn you might still be able to save a life. This will be followed by additional CPR training in Springdale in June, and at Station #4 in Tum Tum in July. If successful, the free training may be expanded in the future to include first aid classes.
FIRST WILDFIRE MOBILIZATION OF THE SEASON: Four firefighters and two brush trucks were recently asked to help control a brushfire near Hunters, WA, near Lake Roosevelt. Your fire district is often asked to help to control wildfires outside of our district. As long as this doesn’t impact fire protection in our own district, we provide assets to other fire districts. Those districts reimburse us for the personnel and equipment cost, plus mileage. This also helps us in case we need outside assistance to help us fight wildfires.
