Lakeside HS Sports Roundup

Week Of April 23-28

This past week was a very slow week for sports. While there were at least a dozen games played, that’s not even half as many as previous weeks. The inconsistent weather also resulted in some canceled and rescheduled games.

Lakeside’s biggest rival, the Freeman Scotties, hosted Lakeside’s varsity baseball team Tuesday on the Scotties’ home field, and beat Lakeside 10-7. Lakeside had 11 hits, with Zach Warlick contributing three, while Josh Judd had two. Daniel Knowles made one home run. The team also faced Colville this week for a double header on Friday. The scores of both games were the same; the only difference was who was on the winning side. Lakeside won the first game, 9-3, then Colville went on to win game two, 9-3.

The Lakeside High School Lady Eagles Softball team sent their competition back to school this week. On Tuesday, Varsity faced Chewelah here at LHS. There was no question who won; Lakeside beat the Cougars 11-1. They then went on to Newport to face the Grizzlies for a double header on Friday, winning both games, 13-3 and 8-1.

LHS’s boys soccer team won their games this week as well. Tuesday they played the Riverside Rams, beating them 2-1, and later in the week, they defeated the Colville Indians, 3-1.

Lakeside’s girls golf team played well this week. They participated in the Chewelah Invite on Friday, where they took 2nd place overall out of 11 teams. Individually, Morgan Semtner placed 4th.

Other games were played this week; visit www.nealeague.org or www.9mile.org for complete results.

Spotlight On Track and Field

Lakeside’s Track and Field team had a meet at Lakeside on Wednesday against the Chewelah Cougars. Both the boys and girls beat Chewelah. The boys scored 109 to Chewelah’s 35, while the girls scored 120.5 to Chewelah’s 16.5.

On Saturday, Lakeside participated in the Riverside Invitational. Lakeside’s boys took 10th of 23 teams overall. Ryan Coffman placed 2nd in the 1600 meter, with a time of 4:35.97 and 4th in the 3200 meter, with a time of 10:10.43. With a jump of 21-feet 4.75-inches, Kyle Powell placed 1st in Long Jump. In the Triple Jump event, Trevor Wood placed 2nd with a 41-foot 4.5-inch jump.

As for the girls team, they placed 11th of 24 teams overall. With a 9-foot vault, Farrahn O’Hara placed 2nd in the Pole Vault event.

You all do a superb job! Keep up the great competitiveness!
