Blue Library Buzz
May ALREADY? It is a notoriously busy month, full of gardening, vacation planning, school events, and best of all, summer is just around the corner. The Library district is no different. May is a busy planning time for us in anticipation of our Summer Reading Programs for children, teens and adults. Programming is an important element for any library district, and we are always searching for meaningful programs to bring to our patrons.
Coming up on May 22nd at 7:00 pm, we would like to invite our community to attend an evening with guest speaker, Rebecca Hom. Ms. Hom is an award winning storyteller, who has spoken to diverse audiences of various ages and backgrounds. Her program, “Climbing Gold Mountain, Gum Sahn: Chinese Pioneers in the Western Frontier,” will share personal stories of Chinese pioneers on the Western frontier. Rebecca has put together a number of oral and written accounts of Chinese family experiences and through her story telling will bring these stories to life.
June will bring the start of our Summer Reading Programs, and this year we will have three events for school age youngsters: June 20th, July 11th and Aug 1st. This year, DREAM BIG, with a Pajama Party, a program on Nocturnal Animals, and a Camp-out program /ice cream party. For our Middle School crowd, we are planning a “Hunger Games” evening. This is sure to be a hit, with food centered games, Capital costuming, and even a little competition. Look for more information on the where’s and when’s of this program.
With Spokane’s events so handy, it is often difficult to come up with programs our community would like to attend. We value your input and suggestions for programs. Please stop in and share your ideas…we’re all ears!
Happy Planning,
Terri
