North County Garden Club: Deer Park’s Green Persian Carpet

Club To Hold Annual Plant And Craft Sale This Saturday

This Saturday, May 19th, marks the 18th year the North County Garden Club(NCGC) has held a plant sale in Deer Park. Members of the club pot up their extra perennials and sell them to raise money for the operation of the club and for charitable contributions, primarily the Dollars for Scholars program.

Tomatoes, peppers, wave petunias, including tidal waves and super cascades, daylilies, and marigolds will all be available and possibly even some dahlias. Each year some of the local crafters and growers set up booths to sell the crafts they make, as well as the plants they grow. This is a community event where we all get together, have a great time visiting and find stuff to fill out those bare spots in the garden. There will be a mobile plant clinic as well! Come check it out. You will not be disappointed.

You’ve seen the handiwork of the NCGC around town for many years. Think of all the beautiful flowers surrounding city hall and the post office. These beautiful gardens are planted and maintained each year by the North County Garden Club members. Questions? Call Sharon at 276-6800.

Double Eagle Pawn at 811 South Main Street (East of Yokes) continues to graciously lend us their front yard for this event. Come see us Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and tell the folks inside how much you appreciate their generosity.

OK, what is this about a Persian carpet? These handmade carpets can have up to 550 knots per square inch. “The Carpet of Wonder,” the largest carpet in the world, required over 600 workers toiling four years to finish it. Over 12 million man hours! A community is like a hand-knotted Persian carpet. It takes a lot of people a lot of time to weave it together. NCGC members work hand-in-hand with the Clayton Community Fair (ClaytonCommunityFair.com), the Farmer’s Market and other community partners to add a few more knots to the carpet.

On May 19th, come knot a row or two yourself.
