Relay For Life
This year’s Relay For Life marked the ninth year this fundraising event has been held in the Lake Spokane/Nine Mile Falls community. Relay celebrates cancer survivors, honors those who have lost their battle, funds cancer research and education and helps provide access to important services for patients and their families. Though this year’s attendance was smaller than in some years past, the enthusiasm was great. With an overcast opening, volunteers and attendees alike toughed out the intermittent rain showers to see the event through to the closing ceremony.
The silent auction was well stocked with a wide variety of wonderful gift baskets from area businesses, as well as many other donated items. Thanks to the Air Force for setting up the tents that protected the auction from the elements. Collectively the event has raised more than $200,000 for the cause.
Because of a schedule conflict, Suzy, Cassidy, Ally, and I were not able to help at the event like years past. This year Danny Johnson, a community member, filled in as DJ. Suzy and I would like to thank Danny and his wife Jamie for doing such a great job in our absence. A special thank you also goes out to all the other volunteers for their dedication and hard work that made this event possible.
