Shallow Dive Into Long Lake Critically Injures Man
Fire District 1 firefighters responded to a critical trauma across from the Dirty Shame along 291 in Tum Tum. Fire personnel arrived to find a 32 year-old-male unconscious and unresponsive with shallow respirations. The male had been pulled out of the water by bystanders.
The unidentified male victim apparently tried to dive into Long Lake where the water was only 3 feet in depth. Fire personnel secured him to a back board and assisted his breathing. Medstar Helicopter was called to transport the patient to Sacred Heart in Spokane.
This accident highlights the need to be extra vigilant when it comes to our natural resources. Several deaths this year related to Inland Northwest waterways can be attributed to a lack of caution. Most of the fatalities have been locals that should be more accustomed to the dangers in our area.
