A Kaleidoscope of Quilts

“A Kaleidoscope of Quilts” is the title of Deer Park Fat Quarters Quilters annual quilt show this year. This event will be held as part of the annual Clayton Brickyard Days celebration on August 4, 2012. The show will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Clayton Grange located at 4478 Railroad Avenue, just minutes north of Deer Park off Hwy 395. Admission is free.

Fat Quarters has a membership of over 60 avid quilters. It takes many people doing their part to put on the quilt show each year. Membership participation in the making of the quilt blocks for the quilt, titled “Midnight Star” and an old fashioned quilting bee put each piece together to make the finished project stunning. Barb Mayfield used her expertise in long arm quilting and the final touch, the binding of the quilt, was a group effort with quilters working together on this magnificent work of art.

This year, a percentage of the raffle quilt sales will again be donated to the Honor Flight Program that arranges for World War II veterans to see the WWII memorial in Washington, DC. Last year’s donation from the guild’s raffle ticket sales raised over $1,000.00 for Honor Flight.

The show’s featured quilter, Gayle Fischer, has been sewing since she was 9 years old, even sewing clothes for her 5 girls and one son. She has made more than 100 quilts, giving half away and keeping the rest. Gayle teaches classes and has been a pattern tester. Her workmanship is unsurpassed.

The show will display over 100 quilts, offer items for sale made by the Fat Quarters guild and include demonstrations and door prizes. We will be announcing the winner of the raffle quilt at the end of the show.
