Low-Cost Cat Sterilization Clinic Coming to South County
Stevens County Cat Care has scheduled a one-day clinic to be held at the Tum Tum Community Center on Sunday, August 12th. These low cost spay and neuter clinics ($8 males, $14 females)are available to Stevens County residents only. Cats must arrive in a crate and be securely contained.
The clinic is completely volunteer operated, even the 7-8 veterinarians that perform the operations are volunteers. As another way to keep cost down, the clinics set up shop in either a grange hall or community center. In one of the communities a local VFW has served as a clinic.
The clinic, which travels, has been held in nearly every part of the county including the areas of Springdale, Hunters, Northport, and Chewelah. Each time the volunteers hold a clinic, they see an average of about 100 cats.
Since forming Stevens County Cat Care, volunteers have successfully sterilized more than 6,700 cats in its seven-year existence. Any cat that weighs 2lbs or more is ready for sterilization. As a matter of fact the younger ones deal with it better. The success of this event will determine whether future clinics will be held in the Lake Spokane area. If you have any questions or would like to register your cat, please call Stevens County Cat Care at 935-MEOW(6369). Stevens County Cat Care is a 501-C3 non profit organization.
