News from The Farmers Market

The speed of life keeps accelerating. Fast food. We stand impatiently waiting for the microwave to count down a two minute bag of popcorn. We use the drive-through for instant gratification. We run into the store after work to buy dinner and use the speedy checkout. When we cook a meal we prefer the five ingredient, thirty minute recipe. Serve, store, wash and finish in one hour. Yet, when dinner is done, do you feel satisfied? Too often dinner is just another chore to check off of our to-do list before moving on to the next chore. Fast snack cakes, a bag of chips, candy bars, cookies packaged in plastic containers that are produced in factories, preserved with esoteric chemicals, and shipped hundreds of miles to the store: this food is destroying our health. Our nation has rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. You don’t have to live this way.

Come to the Farmer’s Market and slow down this Saturday. We are next to Suncrest Rental Center from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm every Saturday. Chat with our vendors and visit with your neighbors. Pick up some corn, potatoes, beets, or squash for the grill. Buy fresh baked goodies or order a pie. You will recognize everything in our ingredients list. Relax and enjoy fresh jam and honey. Be mindful of your food. Eat to sustain your soul as well as your body. Honor the gifts that have been given to us with joy and gratitude.
